I've Got My Tool Between My Legs and in My Hands

So I am now making yet another set of Dual Gauge Points.  This time I need 3 of this one type for the club layout, so I will make 4 of them.  One to keep as a visual example for future reference - always handy to look at a 3D example of how they are supposed to look like.

These will all be right hand turnouts, with the narrow gauge rails running on the right hand side, but with only the narrow gauge rails doing the right hand turn.

So this is one of the tools I will be using today, so as to help make the Frogs.  This Fast Tracks tool, the PointForm tool, is a block of cold rolled steel that holds the rails at the correct angle and allows you to file the excess rail away with your big 10" tool, the engineers mill cut file.  It also has slots to allow you to file the Points Blades later on.

So in between my legs and a filing I do go. Doesn't take long and we're right to go and do it again with the other frog half.

Once filed, you have these nice bits of rails that will go together very nicely indeed.

You now insert the 2 frog rails into the Fast Tracks points making jig and solder them together - simples.

So I repeat 3 more times and I have the 4 frogs I need for the points.  By the way, I also use a decent soldering iron with a small tip and set to 330-350 degrees C and fine 60/40 rosin cored solder. So much less trouble than using really crappy tools.

Then I get my smaller file, the Points File and lightly shape the tip of the frog so there are no dags hanging around.

So that's the frogs made, now off to grab some more rail and start making the other bits needed for the points.
